There's no bad weather, only bad clothing...?

All seasons, all weather...?

Yes!

At Fox and Fionn's Forest, children grow, learn, and thrive outdoors β€” not just for a short recess but for the whole day.

Here in north Georgia, most of the year has beautiful, temperate days with birds chirping. Set in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, we have creeks, rivers, lakes, and hills. Our forest backs into hiking trails, a gentle creek, and a lake. There's an abundance of quartz in our area and children love finding these beautiful white, pink, and orange rocks. (With the right tools, you can even find tiny gold flakes in our nearby creeks!) We're fortunate to have four seasons - including a mild winter and gorgeous autumn foliage.

We have indoor spaces in case of heavy winds or thunderstorms. Our outdoor shelter has a roof and protection from light rain and wind.

It's essential for your child's comfort to be prepared for the outdoors.

Below is a guide on how to dress.

How to Dress

Why Outside?

Why we're outside

  • Nature regulates emotions. Fresh air, open spaces, and natural rhythms help children self-soothe and stay grounded.
  • Movement fuels learning. Running, climbing, balancing, digging, and exploring support healthy brain development and deepen focus for mental tasks.
  • Inspiration is everywhere. Sticks become tools, leaves become art, mud becomes a masterpiece.
  • Outdoor environments promote resilience. Children build confidence in their bodies and minds as they navigate real terrain and real conditions.

We honor the Scandinavian forest school philosophy: β€œThere is no bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.”

Our Seasons

❄️ Winter

❄️ Winter

❄️ Winter

Winter is mild. Snow is rare, and soggy days make for the best hikes! The lake lowers to a bed of sand and a tiny creek. Children love exploring the beach & mossy knolls.

🌱 Spring

❄️ Winter

❄️ Winter

Gentle warmth transforms the forest to a land of thick green. We're surrounded by singing birds and herds of deer with their new fawns, fuzzy and fumbling.

β˜€οΈ Summer

Summer is hot & humid.

The children love our creeks, lakes, and many water stations! The forest provides shade, and we stay hydrated and use natural mosquito spray.

🍁 Autumn

β˜€οΈ Summer

Autumn is gorgeous! We have an abundance of color - leaves are rich reds, oranges, and yellows. The air is fresh, but temperate. Mornings are crisp around pumpkin season!
